Experienced Thoracic Surgeon in Canada - Dr. Armen Parajian

Canadian thoracic surgeon who has been practicing since 2017. At Lakeridge Health in Ontario, he focuses on surgical oncology, treating patients with lung and esophageal cancer, among other types of cancers. Dr. Armen Parajian is particularly skilled in endobronchial ultrasound (EBUS), video assisted thoracoscopic surgery (VATS), minimally invasive esophagectomy, thymectomy, and gastric cancer and benign foregut surgery.  He was trained in EBUS by Dr. Kazuhiro Yasufuku, a co-inventor and one of the world's foremost experts in the technique.

Dr. Parajian is passionate about surgical oncology and believes, more than any other medical specialty, that it requires a humanistic approach. Because of this approach and his surgical abilities, he received recognition in 2020 for outstanding patient care. Dr. Armen Parajian is a member of the Canadian Association of Thoracic Surgery's Best Practice Committee.

Although he has dedicated more than 15 years to medicine, Dr. Parajian didn't always intend on becoming a surgeon. A skilled artist with an interest in science in high school, he decided to pursue a bachelor of arts with a major in architecture and minor in science at the University of Toronto. However, he soon discovered architecture wasn't the perfect combination of art and science that he believed it was and was eventually inspired to study medicine by a pediatric cardiac surgeon from Toronto's Hospital for Sick Children who delivered a guest lecture in his Developmental Cardiovascular Physiology course.

Dr. Armen Parajian obtained his doctor of medicine from the University of Western Ontario's Schulich School of Medicine. He later completed a general surgery residency and thoracic surgery fellowship at the University of Toronto, where he received the Department of General Surgery Essay Award and F. Griffith Pearson Award for Best Resident/Fellow Teacher. He is a Fellow of the Royal College of Surgeons of Canada and regularly attends annual conferences of the American Association of Thoracic Surgery and International Association for the Study of Lung Cancer.
